Pretty things
It is exciting when you get a hand addressed letter in the mail. It is even more exciting when you get a package in your mailbox. The other day I got a package in my mailbox!! So when I opened it up to find these…
I was clapping my hands and jumping around my living room. When I get excited I get excited like a 5 year old. Then I got all emotional and started to tear up. Thoughtfulness always makes me emotional. These earrings are made from faceted concrete and sterling silver. I love that these are made with industrial materials and yet so pretty and delicate looking. I love Megan Stilljes work. She makes amazing jewelry. I have had her etsy site Sweet Pear bookmarked on my computer so that my husband would know what he can get me for Hanukkah or Christmas. I have been proudly wearing these earrings to the grocery store, to coffee with friends, to the post office, to do bookkeeping…everywhere!
On the knitting front not much has been accomplished. Due to house sitting with a pride of kitties, I decided against brining my yarn and needles. Even with the yard diet this week I did make things. I need to make things. I looked up a few flower tutorials and made a little bouquet of flowers for the friend that I have been house sitting for.
If you are interested in making some of these for yourself or someone else you can find the tutorial here by Jeffery Rudell. I made the flowers a bit smaller. They are 1 3/4 inches in diameter before glued. I also don’t have velum, so I used the little glassine bags that I have here in the craft stash.
Here is a close up of the flowers. In the end I made about 5 dozen flowers. They look really nice when there are a lot of them. Tip: After you cut the floral wire to length, dip the ends of your floral wire in some Elmers glue. This will help prevent the wrapping around the wire from fraying.
