Bees and weddings
This summer I have been noticing a lot of bees in my garden. So I have been making these little guys.
Seemed like a good idea for the last bits of yarn that are collecting in my stash. The antenna are made of brown floral wire and the wings are cut out of the envelopes that I used in my thank you cards. I stitched with wings to the bees after about an hour of going back and forth trying to decide between glue or thread. My husband also made me another bottle for my specimen.
My cousin got married last weekend in Point Reyes, California. I was asked to make them a cake topper for their wedding cake. They decided on a pair of male and female bumble bees native to the area that they live. They sent me images of the bees and I worked on some samples for them.
After emailing back and forth on the progress and multiple cups of coffee the bees were finished. I don’t usually out eyes on the creatures that I make but these seemed to need something more on their little heads. I made the eyes out of some Fimo sculpting clay. Boxed them up with their wedding gift and sent them off in time for the wedding.
They look really cute on their cake. It was great to see them staged on such a beautiful cake instead of my usual neutral gray back ground. The wedding was amazing and so much fun! Cake toppers, I would have never though of it. So happy to be able to contribute to making something for the happy couple.
