You are rare like a unicorn
It has been a while since I have posted pictures of my knitting, but I have been knitting, a lot.
When I am talking about someone that displays unique characteristics I often say that they are “rare like a unicorn”. You know the kind of people I am talking about. Maybe they are a rare type of thoughtful, an inspiring kind of hard worker, or endangered kind of listener. These kinds of people have characteristics that I want to learn as I grow up.
Sometimes it is nice to be recognized, not for our accomplishments or for reaching out goals but for the characteristics that make us good people. The things that we some times take for granted in the people that we keep around us. This week I was thinking about what it would be like to get an gift for just being you. What would it be like to receive recognition for the kind of special trait that your friends and family talk about in admiration when you are not around to hear it.
We all have those kinds of people in our lives. This week, I made a unicorn for one of those people. She has courage and grace. I wrote her a card with all the things that I have said to others about what I admire in her and placed it with the unicorn. Wrapped it up and mailed it off. She is rare like a unicorn, and I wanted her to know it.
What would our world be like if we recognized the good qualities not just their accomplishments?
What a beautiful sentiment. I don’t like making animals, personally, but the ones you make are really lovely.
Thank you. You make beautiful pieces and have wonderful patterns! Love your work.
